What is an easy way to become a midwife?

I want to become a midwife and I'm not sure which way I should go.I am attending a LPN program in Florida now but should I go ahead and become a certified nurse midwife which would be about 7 years from now or go ahead and become a direct midwife which i would prefer to do.
