Men's standards for - what they do before to prepare?

I'm a woman and I want to know what to expect, look out for. As far as I know looking back on it, my boyfriends made sure they smelled good and were shaven. What else do men do to prepare for ? I want to know he's doing his part, whilst I'm getting ready over here to please him visually, and don't want to think he's doing nothing for me!
